Summer is slowly winding down here in Castle Rock which means that in just a few short weeks it will be time for the kids to head back to school. The Rowley Group is made up of a few families itself, so we too are getting back into the swing of the season. Take advantage of the next couple of weeks to help prepare your child for this upcoming school year. Here are a few of the ways that we suggest doing so.
Focus on a Sleep Routine
One of the toughest parts of going back to school is that your child’s sleep routine is entirely different. During the summer they get to sleep in, take naps, and maybe even stay up a little bit later. While that’s fine for those few months of fun, it’s not something that’s going to work when school is back in session. These next couple of weeks, start working in a routine that will help make the coming school days a little bit easier to wake up for.
Get School Supplies Ready
Now, it may not be your favorite thing as a parent but buying school supplies is without a doubt one of the kids favorite ways to start preparing for the school year. Taking a weekend or a weeknight to print out the list and head to the store to purchase supplies for the next year is a great way to help your child transition from summer to school. It’s also a great way to get them excited for the year ahead.
Prepare for Homework
Homework certainly isn’t the part that children look forward to the most, but it’s a necessary part nonetheless. Preparing them to get into the mindset of homework is a great way to ensure this transition is a smooth one. One of the best ways to go about doing so is to set up a homework station that has all of the supplies that they need to get their homework done. Now, this after-school task will take place in a fun area that they’ve helped prepare.
Back to School Clothes Shopping
We mentioned a little bit about how buying new supplies can be an exciting experience for your child, but that’s not the only thing that can help perk up their mood. Buying new clothes for the school year is another thing that most children love to do. Finding new sets of clothes, shoes, and maybe even a new backpack, can help them get excited for the first week of school. If you don’t want to go too crazy with the spending, even just a new piece of clothing to wear on the first day is a great way to hype them up.
